What Advice Would You Give To Yourself?

I’ve almost familiarized myself with every motivational quote available on the internet, thanks to social media. There are all sorts of advice floating around and sometimes, it’s very tricky when choosing which one to abide by. Anyhow, we are all entitled under Section 46 to express ourselves freely.

To be honest, I would say that 98% of these quotes and advice floating around are like ‘band-aid’ guidelines: they will literally wear off in the next 2 hours, especially in a digitally driven world where there is a lack of conviction online. Nevertheless, all the advice out here are for a worthy cause, which is to motivate us, and it could also be worthwhile to join the crusade. But in my view, I would rather suggest that reading a lot of self-help books can service you to get to the root of the ‘advice.’

One of my recommendations is Stephen R. Covey’s ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.’ If you are traveling up that way, this book can help improve your mileage on the road to personal growth, rather than if you were just absorbing advice from social media as gospel. Successful people who are at the top have attributed their success to books. I’ve never come across a person who went that far by reading Instagram captions and Twitter screenshots on Facebook.

And if this is starting to bore you then I make an apology. Because actually, I am not here to disseminate any tips or pieces of advice, but I’m rather here to embrace the passion of writing. So, while at that, how about – 15 minutes read by the way - you reading a story and becoming the author of your own advice.

Now, it would be straight from the surface if I wrote something conventional as the caption here. Maybe let’s say a quote I spied from Google associated with some secular interpretation of those 3 am motivational frequencies. But let’s take a detour. Let’s beat around the bush; destroy other people’s gardens. I mean who doesn’t love to dwell on some imagination? Let’s be creative, why not? Let’s leave some Facebook traditions aside and write this caption with a story instead. A legend maybe.

This one will take you through a journey. And also, it might guide you to a treasure.

But before we proceed - a quick preview.

There is a superpower in this world. Spiderman a.k.a Peter Parker’s DNA was altered by some kind of spider venom. Tony Stark designed a special Ironman suit that he can have a friendly chat with and simultaneously launch pocket missiles. And Thor is the mighty god of thunder. But this superpower is real. No country owns it, and no multinational corporation can harness it. Yet this power has been accessible to mankind since the dawn of time.

So, can you guess where it is? Or what it is?

For starters, neither a telescope nor a satellite dish; a submarine nor a rocket ship can point to where this power lies. Mankind, for hundreds of centuries, has wielded this ancient power but with crude technology.

Drumroll, please.

It is the legendary power of the godhead.

As an avid reader, it’s close to like how people love to binge-watch when dedicating my time to reading a very good book. Now, I’m not saying that I don’t sit around all night watching episodes 1-8 of House of Drag… but let’s not get too carried away here - one of these books, at the turn of every page and chapter, navigated to me like a GPS where the secret power of the godhead may lay buried.

So, thank you for your patience, sit back, relax, and find out where.

And you might want to find someplace quiet too.

Alright, let’s dive in.

A very long time ago, when civilization was in its infancy, the immortal gods bestowed a special power to mortal men who inhabited the earth during that epoch. Seeing mankind in its most primitive nature, this power was given by the gods to assist early man in transitioning out of the cave. Dealing with an unknown entity, humans went on to apprehend knowledge that went far beyond the comprehension of the naked eye.

This special power called the power of the godhead was exercised by mankind to assert dominance on earth. By using this power, men built great pyramids and lived for centuries, and every generation that inherited the power of the godhead became growingly strong and reputable in the eyes of the gods. And as the old gods stood and watched from above, this special power was now beginning to assert mortal men as equal to the gods.

So, as the story goes, the council of gods, fearing what beings these mortal men had become, called out an urgent meeting to disband their reigning supremacy. The chairman, being the master of the heavens and the prime deity, decreed to the council that the godhead had over the millennia, become a conventional tool and therefore, its power shall be withdrawn from the custody of mortal men and be buried someplace secret.

A condition was set by the council; the power of the godhead shall be suspended from mankind but the person who determinedly discovers the godhead shall be deemed eligible to possess its power.

It was agreed upon unanimously and the council of gods withdrew the godhead and its power from mortal men. Great confusion came about on the earth during that time. Men began dying as early as a hundred years old, and the expertise of building great pyramids and towers, endless wisdom, and the understanding of the laws of nature began to slowly perish.

The gods had removed the godhead from the world, but a condition was already in place: they must allow men to discover the godhead for themselves. It was now only a question of where to hide the godhead.

‘We shall place it on top of the highest mountain,’ the gods said. But the prime deity, in all his wisdom, declared it to be risky, for there may come a day when mortal men climb the highest mountain and discover the godhead.

‘We shall bury it in the deepest ocean,’ they then said. But again, the prime deity in all his wisdom, declared it to be unwise, for there may come a day when mortal men swim to the deepest part of the ocean and find the godhead.

‘Where shall we then hide it?’ the gods queried.

‘We shall hide the godhead someplace where they will never dare to search,’ said the prime deity. ‘And those who solemnly dare to search for it shall find it there.’

‘Then it must be among the stars.’ Raised a voice.

‘Not even among the stars or the planets,’ said the chairman. ‘If men can imitate the fish to swim and the lion to hunt, then they will one day imitate the birds to fly and soar among the stars and planets.’

‘We must decide between the mountain and the sea, or if not then among the stars,’ said one of the gods seated in the council meeting. ‘Time is running out and we have no other option.’

‘We do,’ said the chairman. ‘I know a secret place.’

The mumbling ceased. The room fell totally silent for the first time as every pair of eyes searched for some meaning on his face.

‘Where is this place?’ asked one voice from among the many.

The prime deity rose from his seat with heavy white robes flowing.

‘We shall hide the godhead in the hearts of every man, woman, and child, for their inner self is the last place they will ever look. Whoever wishes to possess this special power must first discover himself. If he searches deeply within his own heart, he will be able to locate the godhead and the supernatural power that lies hidden deep within himself.’

And so it was, the godhead was buried deep in the hearts of every man, woman, and child, and their children, and the generations that come after will also inherit the godhead. But it is up to each and every individual to discover that hidden power within themselves.

What advice would you give to yourself to discover that power?

Stay blessed.
